1982

Theme, Decorations, and Attire

The 1982 Fancy Dress took place on the weekend of March 4th. The 1982 Ring-tum Phi article highlighted to the left details the specifics of this year's event. This special 75th anniversary edition had a Diamond Jubilee theme. Located in the Warner Center, the university's gymnasium at the time, the event had dazzling decorations inspired by its theme. Atlanta Rhythm Section performed at this year’s Fancy Dress, and students are pictured enjoying their Southern rock. Ticket prices increased to $25, and students wore traditional black-tie attire.

Student Involvement

Like the past two years, the planning and execution of the event was overseen by the all male SAB.

Student Reaction

This event was deemed a night of elegance in the 1982 Ring-tum Phi featured to the left. From the same edition of the Phi, this event is given the high honor of being what “many consider to be the best Fancy Dress in memory" (Wells 1). However, because of this extravagant production, SAB went $20,000 over their budget, which likely led to some implications from the Executive Committee, who determines how much these organizations can spend.
